Maybe I Will Get Round To An X-Com game
« on: 10 March 2016, 01:33:01 AM »
I have been talking about doing an X-Com game for years (since 1994 to be precise). Recently I have git the big again. I am going to use some heavily converted Imperial Guard figures. This is a first test figure which is still a work in progress. They are modular enough that I can change things around as the technology evolves. I will probably run it as an RPG using Savage Worlds. What do people think?

Looks fine to me.
"Peace" is that brief, glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.

Looks like a good model choice! Check these forums if you need inspiration or want to see what others have done. It's really a wealth of good material! I know I too have been kicking around an XCom game for years as well, and have a pretty substantial list of links and such saved for it.

Every time this topic comes up I am amazed anew that a big company hasn't gotten behind the idea. It seems like it'd be a hit.

I have spent a lot of time thinking about this game. The biggest problem has always been the human forces. No one makes the right kind of troops. Some things come close but nothing has the scope. In all honesty I am not a big fan of GW figures but these do what I need and what I an't use the GW stuff for I can use third party parts.
I was planning on using GW plasma weapons as alien weapons then I can use them with the humans as they are sized for them already. It should make life easy. Ish. the armour was also an issue. As you can see I have played about with the helmets. The next level armour will have standard Cadian helmets and maybe so other extra parts.

Thought there was a need for some zombies as well. I understand the best dressed Chryssalid embryos are wearing them now...I am a little limited with the posing as I don't want to do too much chopping up for the zombies at least. Might make a boxing diorama if not a zombie. I don't want them to look too George A Romeo but really ill will do. Still need a bit more work on this and especially some blood spatter.

I guess I don't need too many of these. If the troops get for than five of their number zombiefied it's game over anyway. I'll do others in DPM, ACU, central European, marpat multicam/MRT. I suspect I won't be doing too many with complex flags.

Been doing some more work on the figures and I seem to be fixated on flags at the moment.

The Union Jack was a trial. I did a few different things but in the end I settled for something less than perfection but looks pretty good on the table.

The Brazilian flag I thought was going to be pretty hardcore too but I was wrong. Again nt perfect but not too bad.

I've done a little bit more today although not as much as I would like. Still I have managed to get some camo experimenting done. This time it's been MRT/Multicam and Marpat.

The guy in theMarpat will end up with a Gunnery Sergeant Hartman head. I want  all of the figures to end up with a bit of character about them.
