WW2 Polish Berets?
« on: 17 June 2016, 09:01:10 AM »
One of my big upcoming projects is a late war Polish force for WW2 based around PSC plastics. I got a load of Peter Pig heads with Czapkas and Polish berets to differentiate officers & NCOs, but I can't find any reference to alternate headgear for leg infantry on t'interwebs.

Does anyone know if berets are suitable for NCOs in Late War Polish infantry units, and if so in what colour?

Thanks,
Matt M

I assume we're talking about the Western Front, right? If so, Polish infantry units wore khaki berets - not only officers and NCOs, but also enlisted men.

As for czapkas (the correct name is "rogatywka"), they weren't used in combat, at least not on the Western Front.

Yes, the Western front. Thanks for the information  :)

Was the rogatywka never *ever* used in the field, even by senior officers? I'm basing my units to work both for 1:1 and corps-level gaming, so my lieutenants and captain will be doubling up as general officers of various grades.

On a tangent, if I were to model the Berling Army should they use the rogatywka? I think the LWP might be the only way I could convince myself to do a "Soviet" force and it would be nice to give them some personalised touches. I've seen a couple of photos of Polish officers in the East, but I don't know if they're wearing dress or field uniforms.

Polish Paratroopers wore a grey beret.

At some point I will definitely add the 1st Independent Parachute Brigade, but for now I am just doing the 1st Armoured, since that's all I've got the minis for.

Here's some info on the uniforms of the LWP:

I've seen a lot of pictures that indicate the rogatywka was fairly common.
