Was checking up on the Steel Fist Kickstarter, when I stumbled on Dual Universe :: Civilization Building Sci-Fi MMORPG.

Based on the video, it's like an open-ended version of EVE Online.

....and yet will quickly devolve into Day Z where less than 20m from the spawn point your little computer guy gets it Deliverance style from a gang of rampaging 9 year olds before being iced for their can of beans. Rinse and repeat until uninstall.....

Did you watch the video and read the FAQ? It's not even like that on EVE Online...

The games where this is prevalent are typically ones with XP and leveling up, like Conan.

The spawn point/Ark Ship is a several km bubble in which one could build structures and no choke point, so could leave from any direction.

oh come on Condo, after 25 years you should know when ol scurv has his tongue in his cheek.  (though you just know the griefster douche patrol will break it if they can.)

In EVE Online, certain system stargates, in low security areas had campers, but not all the time, as pirates had to watch out for groups of pirate hunters. In DU, there are no such chokepoints and larger designed ships will have several hundred players as crew, so the douche patrol will have a difficult time.
