2nd Seminole War Artillery and Crews
« on: 09 July 2019, 01:58:08 AM »
I'm working on building units for the 2nd Seminole War. I chose 28mm and started by getting some New Orleans Greys as US regulars and will make another unit using their US deserters. Next I need to add a cannon or two. I'm leaning towards using howitzers from 1st Corps' Mexican-American War line, but I'm on the fence about using their gun crews given the discrepancy. Also, I'm staying away from the Old Glory line if they're in fact 25mm.

What have other people used for artillery and particularly the artillery crews for this period?

The Old Glory range is 28mm and nice casts. Together with their Mexican range they are one of their best ranges IMHO. I will see if I can dig them out of the leadpile and give a comparison shot  ;)

Thanks! The photo really helpful since they don't have them on their website. Since they are listed as 25mm, I wanted to make sure any size differences wouldn't be glaringly obvious. This makes me more open to using some of their other packs such as the commanders and dragoons for which I don't see a lot of other options elsewhere.

Maybe it does not show, but this is the only OG range I have seen with loose heads which I think its a great feature

These guys are having a big sale on the 28mm Knuckleduster 1812 range and a lot of the figures you mentioned are on their site.

I agree that the Old Glory Seminole War Range is one of their best.  The Seminoles have separate heads which makes for a nice mix.  The army troops are equally as nice.  They are quite compatible with the Conquest figures.  Can't wait to see photos of your project!

Would 1812 militia figures from Knuckleduster and/or Old Glory be suitable for this period?

Yes. The Knuckleduster frontier militia in hunting shirts looks fine. If you were to use any of the state militia, I would mix a couple groups to at least mix the hats if not also the rest of the uniform. Uniformed militia were uncommon in this time aside from the officers who were required to have something resembling a US army office coat. I imagine the Old Glory would work as well.

Thanks!  I have some Old Glory and Conquest Seminole as well as a bunch of 1812 Knuckleduster figures that have been waiting to be painted for years.
