Does anyone make Gondor shield transfers in 28mm?
« on: 28 October 2016, 03:30:36 PM »
As the title suggests, I have hit a wall.

I am sure that I have seen some somewhere but cannot figure out where.

Anyone have any ideas?
 :)

Veni Vidi Vici does one on a sheet of heroic designs- maybe get in touch with Justin (IIRC?) and see if he'll do a custom order in white for you?  It's the old Gondorian King's emblem, before the White Tree died, but you can trim the design.

I would do a search on nail-art water-slide decals or transfers.  Lots of palm trees, and the ones below are in black - maybe see if someone on ETSY will do a custom order in white for you?

Also, try looking on line and spend an evening playing around with stylised tree/branch designs to paint on.  You'll be surprised how good you can make them look.  Photobucket is down, but I'll post up some basic designs I did for Conquest Normans that I made a Gondor force out of. They're OK, and I am NOT an artist.

Some really good suggestions there, thank you.
 :D

I was not aware of the existence of those VVV ones, so that may be an option, but the nail art thing may just work as I am thinking that they may work as a guideline to paint over. Being black on a black shield should help disguise them too.

Hmmm....
You have given me food for thought, fo which I thank you very much.
 :D

Sure that I saw some somewhere, there.
I also remember Rohirrim transfers, in a Dark Ages style, and thought that it may be the same company.
Now I cannot locate them either.....

They look great!
 :-*

I am going for a similar theme, in fact going to take an easy option to revive my floundered Dark Ages Middle Earth project that has been ignored for ages.
Now I have the figures to take that short cut it should give me the impetus needed*

*Because what I really want to do is paint my Asgard Orcs, but if I get Gondor done first I should be able to justify the diversion.
 ;)

You can see that some of them are not great - the danger of having to paint a couple of dozen of them.  At least my Dol Amroth swans don't look too much like ducks ;)

Had my eye on those Asgard orcs for decades - I look forward to seeing what you do with them.  I anticipate another mega-thread!

Those Knights look great, dont knock 'em!

As for threads....this lark started a long time ago and I even roped Blackwolf in as a partner in crime.
He did produce some lovely figures whilst I never got around to actually getting anything finished.
You may recall this thread:

Which I may have to bring back from the dead.

Or just start another....

Excellent!  I do remember the thread - I've had my eyes on the Tanatus minis for ages as well (the ones that North Star sells).

Lines like the Musketeer/Footsore Goths have added to the options immeasurably, and all the plastic sets out now give you a ton of options.  Although I like the Ral Partha Europe orcs, there's been some great stuff on these boards even for orcs.  Modified GW beastmen heads, and from hobgoblin this week, a mix of WGF orcs and Frostgrave gnolls.

I did try the helmet wings from Hasslefree for the Gondorians, but only after I'd painted everything.  They're a bit too big really, and would need some trimming.  That plus the thought of doing 40-odd helmets put me off.

Good luck with the project!  I've been staring at some of your deep ones, unpainted, for about a month, and they're mocking me now...

If you can find some suitable artwork it's quite easy to make your own shield transfers and print them onto waterslide decal paper.
