Disaster in the Congo!
« on: 28 October 2016, 06:09:21 PM »
Frank and Paul took the new miniatures hotness, Congo, for a spin on Tuesday, while the rest of the club played Vampire RPG.

Being a fan of the Studio Tomahawk games Muskets & Tomahawks and Saga, a lot was expected of Congo, and it didn’t disappoint.

With both players bringing out their newly painted forces – The Zanzibaris for Paul, and the White Mens Expedition for Frank – and using Paul’s excellent Pulp Alley jungle terrain, the game looked terrific.

This game was a lot of fun

It was hard not to get into a Ripping Yarns/Boys Own mindset with these rules - they have bags of flavour.

We had a bit of discussion/hesitation about the Influence/Terror rules.  Do they need line of sight or even a range?

We decided to play the theme and went with complete table top range to simulate the chances of general funk, movements on the edge of sight or general combat confusion.

It seemed to work out OK but were we correct?

As Frank said, we missed a few things and did many things outright wrong.

First games are always a learning curve.  How it generally works for me is actual play soon highlights what I don't know/understand and a rules re-read soon after brings it (mostly) all together.

We are both keen to get this back on the table.

Also a good talking to my Zanzibaris might see them pick up their game.

No dear, they are not toys, they are models
