Retreat to Corunna: game 2
« on: 23 February 2017, 10:23:18 AM »
The second game in the 'Retreat to Corunna' Sharp Practice mini-campaign from the Lardies Summer Special.
French cavalry and infantry under the impetuous General Colbert catch up with the British rearguard at Cacabelos and try to force their way across the swollen river.
Another excellent game; the British cavalry turned up a bit late and that proved critical - the light infantry on their own couldn't stand up to the French cavalry., who managed to force their way across the bridge in the face of cannon and musket fire.
A couple of shots of the action:

Nice photos.  I have to admit that I felt that that campaign would have been enhanced by the addition of a heroic female countess attempting to escape with the British or similar.

The lads in Spain who devised the campaign tended to use it to wheel out historical refights.  That is fine, but a bit of embellishment with the odd bit of dramatic fluff around the edges.  Can Colonel Daniel Laroux catch his arch enemy, Richard Fondler; can the countess escape with the secret documents.  Which French officer can win the Legion d'honneur by catching the spy.  That sort of stuff.

Cheers

Rich

Colbert survived numerous casualty rolls both from close combat and sniping by the riflemen.
He led a charmed existence.
