Most Common Basing for 15mm WW2
« on: 01 April 2017, 11:51:33 AM »
As I continue my development of updates for my ten year old painting guides, I have started to experiment with some 15mm figures.

Here is an thread explaining the project
http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=97491.0

I plan to write a tutorial for smaller scales as an addition to the 28mm tutorials.

I don't play 15mm WW2, so I need you help.

How do you base 15mm WW2?

I am tempted to base them individually on small coins or washers but I don't think that is the normal way for 15mm.

I see a lot of 15mm Flames of War basing with
a) 4 or 5 figures on a base 50mm x 30mm
or
b) 2 or 3 figures on 25mm x 30mm

Does this same basing also work for other games such as Blitzkrieg Commander etc

Regards

Mick

It really will depend on the ruleset you're planning to use.

Unless you're basing individually for small unit action rules, 50mm x 25-30mm for infantry is probably a fairly good standard.

For individual basing I would suggest Renedra 20mm diameter bases, using larger ones for teams such as mortars and machine guns.

I am doing mine for 15mm (1cm ground scale) Bolt Action (V1).

FoW style basing certainly works for BKC. Also works for many other systems, Iron Cross show it as an option in their rulebook and I'm pretty sure Fireball Forward does too. Another system which is very popular is that from the Peter Pig RFCM stable I.e. 2 or 3 figures on 30x30 base. I prefer this system as I find it somewhat more flexible than FoW style and I prefer the look. Also means they fit on my model bridges which are 40mm wide. Lot of my stuff is being based individually on 20mm discs as Battlegroup my preferred ruleset these days.

I do the same as NTM, 2 or 3 figures on 30x30. Good for pretty well every set of WW2 rules I've ever played, including CD, BKC, RF, IABSM, Crossfire, PBI, Fireball Forward, Spearhead etc etc

I usually  base them as teams, and then just scale the elements up for higher level games.

Thank-you everybody.

I will buy some 30mm x 30mm bases and experiment.
