Have you considered plastic (polystyrene) rod/tube instead of brass? It's lighter, comes in more sizes, and you can use polystyrene cement to attach spear and other weapon heads. You can also stick a bit of brass rod inside the hollow tubes if you need to pin anything.

These dwarves were the first fantasy models I ever had, back when Fantasy Warriors by Grenadier was an alternative to Warhammer 3rd., and its a pleasure to see that they still can stand their ground and are used for armies in 2017!
