New ancients in action

The ancient Chinese have had their first outing, and quite bloody it was (armour doesn't give any protection against 2HCW). Figures mainly Newlines and Reiver, with some Pendraken (10mm).

The heavy cavalry on both sides are at it here. The Ch'in (in blue) misjudged things and got flank charged, which was to cost them the battle in the long run.

On the other hand, the Han left flank was largely undefended, and the Ch'in and their Xiong-Nu allies gave me major trouble here. I did have a force to defend the position, but it got wrong footed early on (those routing LC were meant to slow things down a bit).

The Ch'in picked men went through my crossbows like a dose of salts. Fortunately my chariots were guzzling their foot like dim sum on the other side.
Also shewn, the main infantry engagement in the centre, and the Han guards capturing the pagoda (not fortified this time). The Ch'in unit taken in flank broke at the same time as the crossbowmen being thumped by the elite swordsmen.

Inspiring stuff! Did you use DBMM? I have actually been considering getting some 10mm to use in raising some DBA Xiongnu armies as a kind of test of the scale. I do like how 10mm would seem to occupy a "sweet spot" in DBMM, as it requires around the same number of mounted per stand as 15mm does, and not many more foot.

Thanks for bringing Reiver to my attention. Would you know how their "light chariots" differ from the "heavy"? Both have 4 horses and 3 crew - are the "light" crew unarmoured?

Hi. I don't have the Reiver lights, so can't help you there, but you can always ask them. Be warned that their halberdiers have very thin and bendy weapons - might do better with Newlines. But everything else I've got from them is good.
I had my time with the DBx family, but ran out of patience with the lack of units, the arbitrary and sometimes silly classifications, and their hostility to grammar and logic; the battle used the house rules Iacta Alea Est (copy freely emailed to anyone interested).
