Converting GB Arabs to Ottoman musketeers?
« on: 30 March 2018, 08:31:20 PM »
I was planning to convert some Gripping Beast plastic foot Arabs to Ottoman musketeers for Malta 1565 and I would be grateful for any advice on what arms with muskets that would be suitable? Maybe Perry Mercenaries?

The Perry plan seems reasonable to me, just be warned that GB Arab infantry is exceptionally broadchested. I've been converting mine with Warlord ECW musket arms (for a century later than your project), and I have to trim the Arab torsos down by at least a millimeter of width for the arms to fit right. Just checked with a Perry Mercenary handgun bit, and the same applies.

Thanks Thaddeu,

I was considering Warlord as well as they seem to have several sets that could be useful and I want the ottomans to be suitable for Vienna 1683 as well. I do not mind to cut the down a bit as long as the end result looks good.  It is a bit hard though from the Warlord webpage to understand which set from the infantry, Swedes, scots, dragoons or storming party that would be the best option considering configuration of musket arms. Did you use the Pike&Shot Infantry Regiment?

I've used both the storming party and the basic pike & shotte infantry arms to decent effect, though I believe the storming party is more cost-effective. This post shows Warlord storming party arms (and some Perry ACW arms) with GB Arabs. I can probably get examples of the basic p&s infantry musket arms posted tomorrow.

Alright, I put up a blog post not only showing my latest Ottoman kitbash, but also giving a quick rundown of the plastic musket arms available from Warlord Games.

Essentially, the Firelock Storming Party is easily the cheapest option for plastic musketry, but with fewer posing options than the Infantry Regiment, and firelocks may not be appropriate musket types for low-quality Ottoman infantry.

hope that helps!

Excellent! Many thanks! Seems it will be the storming party then but is it correct that they do mot have any arms in a firing position?

You are correct, neither firelock arm set is in a firing position.

If you don't mind me asking, why not just buy metal ottoman musketeers?

TAG do some nice ones.

I plan to do TAG for the Jannissaries but it is quite fun to convert some plastics into unique models. It is important to have fun  ;)

I started converting plastics out of cheapness, but have kept doing it because it's fun!

I agree- my Taifa Kingdoms army is a mix of metal minis and converted plastics. There is something very satisfying in converting/kitbashing.
