My Spanish Succession forces so far

Apologies for the image quality, but this shows my assembled battalions - 2 French and 4 Irish circa 1706/7. This is the first time I have ever shown what I've done. My painting is not up to the standard of many others but, in my defence, I am in my 6th decade.

I'm doing separate colour parties so that I can convert the Irish battalions into English. Battalion sizes are 32 figures as this looks better to me than 24.  I'm using Warlord figures as they are the cheapest option for me. Regiment de Berwick next, then a Prussian, then Regiment de Galmoy.

I think they look splendid. The officers ,  in particular , have caught my eye . Which 2 x French Regiments have you modelled ?

I went for the Regiments du Roi and de la Reine. I may well add second battalions in due course

I think a wash technique would make these fine figures even better.

I have wondered about that myself. I have tended to not do much more than just the straight paint job. I have a few stand-by figures I could try on - what technique would you suggest?

Excellent painting on these figures,I have a similar band of figures from Warlord.I like the regimental look of these figures,I know what you mean about age I am in my 70's a little slower but my work is fine.great to see your work.

I have wondered about that myself. I have tended to not do much more than just the straight paint job. I have a few stand-by figures I could try on - what technique would you suggest?

My method: 5 parts water, 1 part Future clear floor wax, a drop of dish detergent. The last two break surface tension of water. Put some in a pallet or small dish, mix in black ink as needed. It should be fairly dark. Start with a trial figure and be prepared to rinse off if you made it way too dark. Brush wash across the figure. It shold be quite wet when done. The ink should nestle in folds and creases, giving a shaded and outlined effect. Once it is dry, you may need to go back and highlight some areas that got too dark. You can also dab areas too dark while wet with a dry brush or pieces of paper towel. The cartoony look will lessen as it dries. I use a heavy hand with the wash, makes it look like I'm a better painter than I am.
