This is a tank I ordered. It's from the Meng 'Toon Tanks' line. A slightly deformed Churchill. I wasn't sure if it'd be the right size for my purposes or how good it'd look, but I was very pleased with it in the end and it's more or less exactly the right dimensions for what I need. Very easy to build and not too expensive either (about £10).

Maybe a little bit cartoony but hopefully I can give it some grit with an okay paint job.

Now to add some transports for my infantry. I'll be using some diecast 1:43 French Panard armoured cars for these. They look a tiny bit too modern for the project (more 40s-50s rather than 20s-30s) so some minor modifications are in order.

Ta-da! Modification #1. Turn the turret around. It's high level stuff, but I managed it. Now it looks a bit more old fashioned.

Next I added headlamps made frome some bits of sprue , stowage (Warlord Games) and rivets to the turrets using puffy paint. These mods should hopefully help to sell that more old fashioned feel. I have since primed them and tonight I will start painting one of them. I'm not allowing myself to buy any more stuff until I get these three armoured cars painted. After that I'll be adding two veteran squads and some officers via Copplestone Casting's 'Back of Beyond' British.

I finished painting my first armoured car. I tried out some paint chipping. First time using the foam/sponge technique and I was quite happy with the results.

The army grows. Three infantry squads and three transports done. Now I need to add some officers and some heavy firepower :)

Great concept and execution. It is amazing what you have done with that toy tank.

Thanks! :D Yes, I was quite pleased with that kit. Very easy to build and not too expensive. A bit cartoony, but I tried to give it a gritty, weathered paintjob to alleviate that aspect of it a little :)

The planes and tank definitely give it a Studio Ghibli vibe and I love it.

Another armoured car. This one to provide transport for a squad of veteran infantry.
