Sir_shvantselot does Gaslands
« on: 04 August 2018, 11:50:52 PM »
I have never played any 7TV games but at least at a modelling level I wondered if this is something I might try and see if anyone down the local gaming store in Borehamwood, UK would give it a go. I fished out some super old Copplestone minis I bought as a kid from Virgin Oxford Street in like 1994 and painted about four years later, and think I might put them on flat Warlord bases to make them look more normal with the 1:43 vehicles.

But the most fun would be working up these Volkswagens I picked up as Mad Max fury road type vehicles with new 7TV bits as shown below.

I am not sure what people use for that mesh effect on the windows. Is it fly guard as shown below?

Also I wonder if those machine gunner emplacement things have separate heads so I could swap in some statuesque heads for example.
Shame Ash Barker’s new rules don’t include vehicles as I just picked up his Last Days of the zombie apocalypse.

Good luck. I just bought some of the same Crooked Dice bits. Too good to ignore. And for some reason VW Campers always look good post apocalypsed.

It's not big, or clever, but let's do it anyway

I use the car repair wire mesh (available from places like Halfords)
It is easy to cut if you use a heavy pair of scissors.
I also acquire any mesh that my wive is about to throw out, e.g. anti-splatter covers for dishes,
or strainers, that are past their best.

That's interesting. Can't wait to see your Campers modified.

This was a great tip and you see I picked up some wire mesh from Halfords…

And after a few years, painted these up. Who knows, maybe I’ll get into  Zona Alpha…

I've got the same figures somewhere. Painted them about 5 years ago and never used them on the tabletop.

That is a waste because they are good, atmospheric/characterful figures. I must find them....

Did a quick video of where I’ve got to on painting these plus a huge bus. Visually Gaslands works better for me at 1:43 and ties in with my largely 28mm mini collection. Though feel I have missed out on the instruments of carnage plastic sprues which light have swung it back to matchbox for me if I’d realised there were going to be two fantastic sets you can get from North Star!

Good work so far. Go for stowage on top of the bus,
it will look great. I would paint the widows (several guides
on how to get good looks for it on LAF) It has the advantage
of removing the need to do interior details like drivers. I am
like you & reluctant to use power tools to take toys apart. I
manage to injure myself enough with non power tools as is. lol

Especially this time of year (Halloween is coming) keep your
eyes open for cheap (Poundland etc) table covers. The scary
images might suit Gaslands better that the existing table tops.
Or a visit to Dunhelms, where they sell leatherette material by
the metre. In the range is a nice (muddy) brown. Much cheaper
than commercial battle mats. If you want you can easily make
a race track by soaking a sponge with a lighter brown & just
dragging it around the leatherette.
Keep up the good work, & keep it fun. :)

You joke but they were great camouflage for the smaller vehicles and I never noticed a couple till they were in shooting distance.

Such a wealth of great suggestions. Thanks for all that!

Dunhelms sounds good. Not sure can be bothered to paint windows!
