World of Tanks Wave I & II painted.

As this game is not strictly historical and I have chosen to paint the tanks with interesting skins (like you can get in the video game version) I figured this was the best category for this post. The World of Tanks miniatures game is good fun, easy to learn for new players, and does a good job capturing the feel of the computer game. That is why I own it, to get video gamers into our hobby. As such I gave my tanks a less then historical paint job. I own 14 of the tanks out and have finished painting the four American tanks and three Russian tanks I own. The Americans are painted like a red bull can just because I wanted to use the tab off the can as a stencil for the bull. The Russians are inspired by Warhammer 40K Imperial Guard because I happened to have an old set of water transfers for them. These are great, very crisp clean paint jobs.

They are also very disconcerting, seeing historical models in fictional paint schemes. I don’t really know why this is the case, and shows a general lack of imagination that virtually all WWII tank models are painted up in historical schemes, rather than creative ones.

I like it, especially the Red Bull  colour scheme

Once my wife asked if I could design a SIMPLE,
to make, tank kit for her class. A photocopiable
sheet, to wrap & glue around an egg-box with
a yogurt pot for a turret & straw for a barrel
was the result.

I gave a fairly detailed painting guide, this for
DAK, this for Normandy & so on. My wife just
laughed! I found out why later.
One was bright purple with yellow spots, another
pink with green stripes & so on.
The children did have fun though.

I do like the Red Bull scheme a lot as well. It really sticks out.

 I finished the last of my World of Tanks collection. These are the 4 German tanks out so far. In keeping with my theme of colorful/interesting camos/skins I decided to paint each on of these based off a different plane flown by the Red Barron. I really love the paintjobs! I loved Tanks! as a game, I really must get back into it.
(it's a nice system since you can reskin your miniatures to look cool without too much issue)

These are really well executed, and great imagination.

But what I can’t get over is why they look so wrong to me. And I know this is my problem, not yours! I don’t know why seeing WWII tanks in non-historical paint schemes is so surprising. The Valentine looks like a variant of Caunter and therefore plausible, but seeing a Cromwell and a Firefly in this just looks so strange to my eyes.

I’m really kind of confused by this - I’m quite happy with Dragons and Giants and Orcs and Space Marines - they seem fine. But put a novel paint scheme on a WWII tank, and it confuses my poor head!

I do really like what you are doing with these, and how good the paint jobs are, but could you do some in Olive Drab

I totally get what you are say, if this was just Tanks then that's what I would have done but the miniature game World of Tanks is based of the video game by the same name and makes little attempt at Historical Accuracy. Because of that I decided to paint all the tanks to match the feel of the video game where you get custom skins and camouflage for your vehicles. I only play this game to appeal to the kids on my base and hopefully get them into wargaming.
