Are there any 28mm models of Leonardo Da Vinci's War Machines?
« on: February 13, 2022, 01:35:18 AM »
As the title suggests, are there any 28mm models of Leonardo Da Vinci's War Machines available to use on the Wargame table?  Who makes them?  Any and all help would be appreciated.

Fun project, sharp.
Especially the scythed chariot.

Or the machine gun crossbow.
Looting a big water mill model comes to mind.

For the enormous crossbow, you could just tinker with a real one.

By the way, the da Vinci tank would have been quite big.
It was to be manned by eight men, four cranks, three loaders, one commander.
The diameter would have been about nine meters.
Whatever scale 28mm maybe for you, but for simple math let's take it 1/50.
That makes a diameter of 18 cm for the model.

Since that monster was intended more as a psychological horror show than a tactical kinetic weapon, I'd say the bigger the better.
Especially if you want to build the interior.

You should add an aerial screw to its top.
Just for a good measure and to cross rough terrain.
 :)

I believe that Academy, Elenco and Pathfinder all make suitable models, but I have no personal experience of any of them.

I just ran a "Leonardo's War" at the most recent Historicon (It even got a mention of Little Wars TV).  I used a number of the plastic kits from Academy and Elenco.  They are available through Amazon, Ebay, or scientific toy sellers.  The Elenco models can be a bit more difficult to find.

I posted pictures from the game on my blog that should give you an idea of how they scale with 28mm figures:
