Hi all,

with the wargames butterfly in full shiny mode. I have been looking at putting together a DBA army to represent the Russ from ~900AD. Big rectangular door shields and all.

I have always heard that the Two Dragons Russ are the best/most character filled models on the market. But I have recently been painting some War and Empire miniatures and liked them a lot, but they have relatively repetitive poses. I was wondering if anyone has the two ranges and has/could do a size comparison? Is it worth looking into mixing the two ranges or would they not work?

Thanks,
Ed

I don't know either of these two ranges, but if  I were in a similar position I would fire off a £20 order to Caliver to sample the Two Dragon range. Chances are probably 80% they are going to look perfectly fine together. And it's old school fun sending off for stuff and not knowing!
I am going to build a wargames army, a big beautiful wargames army, and Mexico is going to pay for it.

Hi Vodkafan,

I would really like to be able to do what you suggest. Sadly living in the EU makes small orders a less feasible. Hence the query to the hive mind.

Best,
Ed

I think I painted Two dragons armies for DBA (russ and samurai) like... 18 years ago I guess.
Post mongol Samurai was my first painting competition prize in 2004 (so I remember it very well) they are maybe the chunkiest figures I've ever seen in 15mm (along with few other brands), even for the russ I struggled a lot to make them look nice.

I still have the samurai, but I think I sold the russ in a lot with other "dark ages bases" to a friend who needs them for "art de la guerre"
Unfortunately gallery is unavailable: http://fanaticus.org/DBA/armiesofthefanatici/FilippoSimoncini/Samurai/index.html

LazyStudent, as well as the Two Dragons range I suggest you look at the Old Glory 15mm range now sold by Timecast. All the packs have photographs so you can see what you are getting!
