And here I am remembering that Conan battled Frost Giants in an early REH story.

Hmmm... Guess I have to work that into Broadsword Adventures.

well, that's one of the most best short Conan stories. Melancholic in a way. Conan running for a dream...

I could never tell if REH felt he could never achieve his dream or that dreams are worth pursuing no matter what the cost.

Who? REH or Conan?

Anyway, I don't like giants which are looking like normal humans just in a different scale.
"I'd like to send this letter to the Prussian consulate in Siam by aeromail. Am I too late for the 4:30 autogyro?"
"Uh, I better look in the manual... This book must be out of date. I don't see "Prussia", "Siam" or "autogyro"...

This doesn't solve your dislike of their proportions, but look at the comments over on Frothers about why it was sculpted that way.

REH. Knowing how he died, it makes you wonder.

I know why they're sculpted that way...
Still I wonder where those giants always find boots, helmets and weapons in their size.

I read somewhere that REH's stories were at some points self-reflecting. But I think I don't know enough about REH himself to form a respectable opinion about this principal topic.

H.P. Lovecraft said in the obituary he wrote for Howard in Weird Tales that the secret of the success of Howard as a story-teller is that he is in fact in every story he writes.

Look at Sailor Steve Costigan and Mike==Robert and Patch

Look at Beyond the Black River...that is the best example, Howard IS in the story, as the character of Balthus, along with his dog, Patch...aka
Slasher

In The Frost King's Daughter, Conan is chasing after Atali recklessly with no concern for personal safety and barely escapes without having his heart roasted on Ymir's " smoking board"

yeah, you find Howard in all of the stories, in on incarnation or another...hell, some have put forward the notion that Conan is actually very roughly modelled on his father...

but I don't want to spoil the good reading for you...look into it yourself

Doesnt matter where he's shopping. it's a right one, exactly my imagination of a frost giant, just a big viking. He looks like one of the frost giants from the last Dark Horse Conan adaption.
