Smallish ACW battles?
« on: 08 February 2023, 05:37:56 PM »
Reaching out to the hive mind:
I recently played First Bull Run with Bloody Big Battles rules. It's a mid-sized to samll game on a 4 X 4 foot table. I rather like the feel of it.

Can you chaps suggest other ACW battles with about 20,000 per side? A little larger, a little smaller is fine.
A little before or after the ACW is OK too.

Thanks in advance.
And the glorious general led the advance
With a glorious swish of his sword and his lance
And a glorious clank of his tin-plated pants. - Dr. Seuss

Several of the battles in the Shenandoah in 1862 and 1864 would work.
In the Trans-Mississippi you could do Wilson Creek, Pea Ridge or Prairie Grove.

Pea Ridge, now there's an idea.
There's an old Volley and Bayonet scenario online that could be sampled.

Monocacy, 1864.  Union about 6000, Confederates about 14,000.  Union delaying action.

Pea Ridge is a goon 'un.  You can do Elkhorn tavern and Leetown on the first day, and the whole giddyup the second day.  You can even do a mini campaign, where the fights on the first day affect the battle on the second...

Mill Springs could be a good one too.  Smallish, with either side of 5000 per side - you just use battalions/regiments instead of brigades, but I think BBB could do it...
