New Scenario Book: Senussi Campaign, 1915-17
« on: 07 July 2023, 03:27:51 PM »
Not sure how to cross (apologize in advance), but since this the Senussi Campaign is really a later colonial campaign, but with more modern equipment of the early WWI period, including it here. Enjoy!

My latest “Setting the East Ablaze” (STEA) scenario book from Caliver Books is now available (see link below)...

The Senussi’s Little Miniature War, 1915-1917. All scenarios very easily adaptable for other rule sets. Order direct from Caliver Books, or in the US if you will be at HISTORICON (July 20-23), see the On Military Matters booth for a copy (while they last).

Hello
Another interesting  subject from same series
I’m thinking to have a try in ordering this one (plus , maybe, the other books same series)
may I ask you please if they are, principally, all scenario books or they are specifically linked to a certain rules system (which scale ?).My idea would be, if they are above all a recollection of historical scenarios, to game them with TSATF or other simple big skirmish type of game rules.

To Reply #2...

The scenario books are aimed at chiefly Setting the East Ablaze rule. But, there are complete unit stats in each scenario for Contemptible Little Armies as well as Other Rule Sets (i.e., more generic) which work for Over the Top, even TSATF with easy adaptions. Otherwise, each of the 15 scenarios has full details for setup, full historical background, terrain notes, and a detailed map, besides the units stats - that's how I do all of my scenarios, so once you see one, I think (from a gamer's point-of-view) you will like how I do them. Also, there is an appendix that has stats to convert for the newer Beyond the Empire rules.

Hope this answers your questions. Oh, same above for my Dunsterforce scenario book for how I did those scenarios; same layout and details.

Thanks it seem interesting and playable with other rule sets
Last question please: which is the figure scale ? That’s to say , in your scenarios system how many real men a miniature casting represent? Or better, for example, of how many figures/castings a British battalion is composed in your scenarios ? I said “battalions” cause I suppose that, view the period, the scenarios could be at maximum at brigade level
Many thanks

The figure scale (figures to actual men) varies depending on the scenario. The scenarios are designed for 2j5/28mm figures, but one can easily use 15 or 20mm, and make the table smaller, as appropriate.

Even from the index (and thanks for providing us with that essential infos) it seem very very interesting
I read somewhere that, during this campaign,  a joint forces allied raid vs Senussi was successfully carried out by British imperial troops supported also  by a patrol of Italian bersaglieri carried on small Fiat desert cars/trucks  ..maybe it was during one of the small engagements listed in the index.

Italwars,

Correct. I have that info in the Minor Operations boxed section on page 18 of the Background chapter. I really wanted to do this scenario for Wargames Illustrated (and may still), but was held up by two things: a) could not get the Italian figures in time, and b) could not find the Fiat cars. All for 28mm. That said, I would love to game the 1911-12 Italian war against the Turks/Senussi, as that seems to be an interesting one. It's getting the right figures, which sadly, I've never been happy with the sculpting of the Italian figures I've seen for the (roughly) colonial period.

That said, email me off line (ecwcaptain via aol) and we can chat about it, if you want.

I put the minor operations details in the book, so that gamers can develop things on their own, using the book as a guide. There are a number of convoy raids that happen near the oases as well. But, they have to be handled carefully, as they are often one-sided, so playtest is your friend to make it a game. :-)

Regards,
Bob
