SYW (WAS) Scenarios
« on: 16 August 2023, 09:44:09 AM »
Three new Twilight of the Soldier Kings scenarios are available. These are Bassignana (1745), Piacenza (1746) and Rocoux (1746). Bassignana and Piacenza are battles in Italy featuring the French, Spanish, Austrian and various Italian armies. Included in the Bassignana scenario are OOB's of the full armies for 'What if' battles. Rocoux is De Saxe and his French army fighting an allied army of Austrians, Dutch, British and their allies.

These are available here - https://www.wyrehistoricbooks.co.uk/catalogue/soldier-kings-pdf-downloads

The rules are for large battles and so units in the OOB are brigades of circa 4 battalions/8 squadrons.

I do have OOBs down, more or less in some cases, to battalion/squadron level. Was there some specifc information you were after?

Do you list the names of the battalions / squadrons in each brigade?

Zopenco:

No I am afraid not and also this is not ialways ncluded in the material I have.

To explain and give some idea of this I have OOB's of the 4 armies in Italy in 1745 but these are lists of the units and commanders. The Savoyard one is in effect of the full army and not all of the units actually took the field.

For Bassignana the details of the Savoyard army is defending a river and the two Bourbon armies are attacking them. The Austrians are marching to aid the Savoyard. The frontline troops of the Savoyards and two Bourbon armies are know but not the details of the supporting forces. Yet the Savoyards are clearly only the 'regular' and 'foreign' troops of the army. While the Bourbon forces on the right are those from the Spanish/Neapolitan army and the left are the Gallispan army. In all cases the supporting forces were those units of Bourbon armies not in the frontine and the rest of the 'regular/foreign' Savoyards. The Austrians arrived towards the end of the battle but weren't greatly involved. So their OOB is more speculative - there was mainly an advance guard so probably light infantry and cavalry.

For Piacenza the two sides are detailed in the material I have. The Bourbon armies remain the same but only parts of it are used in their attack. These are in organised into 'columns' which are something like brigades. The Austrians are more conventional but when reacting to the Bourbon attack they largely rearranged themselves during the attack.

I hope that helps a little.

I would be interested in any OOBs at battalion/squdron level as that is my prefered unit scale to play at.  Thank you
