A favorite YouTuber of mine, Leon, (who I linked to above) went to the the Warlord Games Open Day and stated that they announced that the next Epic release will be Heil Caesar. Hmmm....  ;D No release date though.

Have a couple Reb regiments almost finished. Some photos coming soon.

They look grand, and this is very useful - I just bought a couple of sprues of Napoleonics, Rifles and Highlanders, and French foot; the guys at Warlord noticed that shipping was higher than my purchase, and very kindly sent me an extra sprue of British foot, so thank you very much!  8) 8) 8)
I only want a tiny force of each, but want to build some fortifications as used in the local (Malta) siege of Valletta (French inside the city, Maltese and British outside). I know, no rifles, no Scotsmen, so it's not realistic, just a fun 'could have been' setting.
I'll take notes from your suggestions and observations. I hope I can get mine to look as bright as yours, my preference for black undercoat usually results on dull models*, although I am working on that.

*which explains their performance on the games table back in the day when I used to play, although dim might be a better term!

I prime black but then drybrush white before painting.

Looks like between then and now, they are putting out 2 plastic frames for Pike& Shotte Covenanters first.

I prefer to use a black primer, so as to be able to give the miniatures a black line painting technique. But nowadays my eyes just can't pick out the details.

Problem with a black primer is that for colors line red, it is probably best to give them a white base coat over the black primer first, to ensure that the red will pop. With my 10mm French from the Franco Prussian war, I applied a heavy coat of GW Mephiston Red first over the black primer and then highlighted it with a very bright red (Foundry British Red Coat).

For my ACW minis, I am priming white, block painting the minis, give them a bath in nuln oil and then highlighting. First time I have used this technique and am still struggling with the amount of nuln oil to apply.

Thanks for the indications - I was planning something similar, unless I try black undercoat with a white overall drybrush to provide a lighter base for the colours.
And that flag is incredible!  :o :-*

Thanks, mate!

Yea, give it a try. That is another technique I haven't tried, but I gather it works quite well.

I always take a bunch of old minis and paint them up first when I try a new technique. I also practice on a few old minis first to find the specific paint colors which I'm thinking about using.

Okay... so finally some more photos!

This first photo is a strip of infantry I practiced on first to figure out the colors I wanted to use on my troops.

I pretty much had my selection figured out before hand, with the exception of the blue highlight. I think I probably should have gone with a bit lighter color to get them to pop more.

Here is a photo of 2 finished reb regiments (it's a bit dark):

Here is a closeup of one of the regiments:

And here they are from the back:

Used a very limited pallet here... grey and light brown for the uniforms. Gave them metal canteens.

Continuing on my first confederate brigade...

Thanks, gents!

In the future, I will only be making pictures of my troops as I complete my brigades. They all use the same minis, so individually there isn't much else to add, except possibly the Generals (pack of 5) which I also bought and are superbly detailed.

As a side note, I am using the flags as an indicator of troop quality to make things easier to see on the battlefield. The flag which is straight up will indicate veteran troops. For the Yanks, that will be the National Flag, and for the Rebs that will be the Battle Flag. So in the picture of the 2 Reb regiments you have one regiment of veterans and one that is trained.

Really enjoy painting these guys and as I add more units, the effect of the massed troops really is quite eye catching.
