Short Battlereport + Questions
« on: January 18, 2010, 06:59:05 AM »
Greetings,

Finally got my first game in.  The scenario was Recover the Artifacts.
Threshold:
Detective Emil Sterling (.45, Bowie, Light Armor, Command, Rugged)
Agent Sev Cramer (Rifle, .45, Bowie, Improved Dex)
Agent Sandy Lake (Rifle, .45, Bowie, Light Armor, Smart)
Local Kid Arnie Hatteberg (.22)

Lurkers:
Serpentman Demagogue (Shotgun)
2x Cultists with Pistol
2x Cultists with Club

With the treasure laid out in front of us in the center of a small shanty town of metal shacks and tents, the Lurkers claimed the initiative, with the Demagogue and the pistol Cultists advancing down the middle.  Detective Sterling moved around the right flank behind a tent, while Agent Lake activated Smart to run forward on the left and gain a better position near some treasure.

The 3 lurkers continued forward (now almost in the Threshold deployment zone in the center of the board) and took some shots at the Threshold trio to no avail.  The Detective activated his band again and Arnie ran towards the nearest treasure, not quite making it.  Sterling followed him, while Cramer wheeled around and took a shot at the Serpentman, inflicting a wound.

The Serpentman activated along with the lurkers, and stepped forward to open up with his shotgun, inflicting a major injury!  The other lurkers followed the serpent.  Arnie sprinted into base contact with a treasure while the detective stepped forward and opened fire at a cultist.

The Serpentman advanced to fire his shotgun at Sterling, inflicting a wound and knocking him back, while the cultists sprinted after Arnie.  Arnie searched the treasure, uncovering a Map Piece!  Sterling charged the Serpentman, gutting him in combat and removing the Demagogue from the board (Rugged coming in quite handy).  Both cultists were revolted at the death of their leader and retreated.

One cultist opened up with his .22 and dropped Arnie.  The Detective fired on his comrade and killed him.

The cultist fired again, this time on Sterling and sadly, our hero dropped to the ground (luckily with only a minor injury).

From here, Lake took over and searched a couple more treasure troves and killed the remainder of the cultists after passing her 'last woman standing' test.  (Note, we may have screwed things up by not ending the game after Sterling died, but I couldn't find the reference stating such -- any help?).  Arnie managed to recover, but Cramer unfortunately developed an acute case of Agoraphobia, probably terrified of meeting more snakes outside.

Overall, a really fun game.  It's very fast and reminds me of the "dogs of war" expansion for Confrontation (just much more evocative).  I look forward to tracking the further exploits of the Sterling Detective Agency.

Questions:

1.  Wounds - If a model with multiple wounds is attacked and the damage roll is = or > than his/her constitution, that model simply loses a wound from that attack?  Thus, you would not make an injury roll for them until they had suffered x wounds?  So even dynamite can only ever inflict one wound?

2.  Deployment - If a scenario doesn't state a certain # of inches from the edge in which to deploy, are models simply set up on the board edge?  In the case of 'recover the artifacts,' do the markers simply need to be moved to the edge, at which point that model can then return to the fray?

I'll bump if I come up with any more of them.

Thanks for the great ruleset!

Your game report sounds great...and also fairly 'correct'. Now , on to the questions:

1. If the damage is = you take a wound. If the damage is over you take wounds in accordance to how far over it is. Example: You have Con. 6, I hit and wound you, my wound roll is a 5+2=7. I would cause you a wound on a 6 (=) but would cause you 2 wounds on a roll of 7. If you only had one wound I would roll injury with the remaining +1.  o_o hope that makes sence  o_o.

2. Deployment zones are concidered to be 5" in. Any scenario which does not state starting deployment zones should be played this way. In retrieve the artifacts the artifacts need only be moved into the deployment zone. This way you can still use your model in the game. Assume they are loaded onto a truck or whatever but once in the deployment zone they are removed.

Hope that answers your questions...

@ Mike - thanks, the answer to #2 clears that up.
Regarding wounds, in the first example, if your damage roll was a 6, you would inflict 1 wound and my model would be fine.  If he were then hit again, and your damage roll was a 6, I would suffer my last wound and then roll on the Injury table with no modifier?

If your damage roll had initially been a seven, both of my wounds would've been removed and you would've then immediately rolled on the injury table with no modifier, correct?

So basically, the excess points of success either inflict more wounds and/or add to the injury roll?

@ Stratos
Not really - I picked it up for Xmas.  So far a couple seem moderately interested (Marc, Paul), but Skrivanek wants no part of it.  I'll need to get it out on the town and demonstrate its quickness and tactical nature.  How does your group like it?

Nice to see you finally bought into the game.   :D

Fun to see the odd old Confrontation guy n here.

We'll be running some events at GenCon this year too.

Emphasis on finally.  It was extremely tempting at Gencon but I had so many other distractions - Christmas provided an ideal time to dive in.  So far, so good.  Definitely count me in for some action in August.  Maybe a Dogs of War-style league?

That's what I was thinking of, the GenCon League.  Play pick-up games all weekend with everyone, and compare lists at the end or something for a prize.
