Growing Spanish Civil War project
« on: June 04, 2024, 02:46:16 PM »
I've been working on my SCW project for a bit, and it is progressing nicely. Three posts here:
https://upthebluefow.blogspot.com/search/label/Spanish%20Civil%20War

I almost went 15mm and Peter Pig, as I already has some mint in bags.  But for just a little more, I was able to go 20mm from Minairons, and the figs are a lot more visually impactful, and suit the Unit skirmish level I decided upon.  Very happy with the figures.

Soon will be posting reviews on the numerous books I've found, several of which are excellent [and some are cheap, or even free!].  That will be a post which gets continuous updating as the books get read and reviewed.

Rule sets?  Most likely home-grown, but favoring modified Bolt Action and The Men Who Would Be Kings to get started. Once I decide on the mechanics I like best, I'll tweak and steal.

A great period, with a growing amount of documentation in English, thanks largely to our UK scholars [I suspect they are using the SCW as an excuse to vacation in Spain, but can't prove that yet!  :D]

Brasidas, nice post and Blog. I'm getting back into SCW but using 15mm Peter Pig. I tried his "Bayonets and Ideology" rules maybe 15-20 years ago but the period and rules didn't grab my attention. My group then tried Chain of Command in 28mm but that gained no traction. I then bought "For Whom the Dice Roll" just after Covid, and my Foreign Legion are just about to hit my painting table. I too have quite an extensive library, most of it sadly unread. That may be about to change.

I'm posting some of the best reads - not in detail, I figure A----n or other places can provide extensive reviews.  Just why I thought the book was definitely "whatever it was".

I priced out Peter Pig, and for just a bit more was able to go 20mm as long as I placed a good sized order.  As my eyesight isn't getting any better... the decision was easy to make!

Nothing wrong with my 15mm PP mint in bags, and I sold them quickly when I decided on the 20mm.
