Biostrip?
« on: August 17, 2024, 11:53:30 AM »
I was recommended to try using Biostrip for removing paint from models. So I walked down to Element Games and bought a tub.
It does indeed do a very good job of removing paint.
It also seems to:-
*Separate greenstuff work from models and permanently soften the greenstuff.
*Break glued joints in styrene, I had used Tamiya extra thin cement.
*Bleach GW plastic, the figures in question were late nineties production Catachan Jungle Fighters.

Is this to be expected?

Bio Strip 20?
How long are you actually putting figures in it?
As it's a product I use all the time ,and have for years. I also used it as a targeted paint remover. With out ever coming across the issues you've mentioned. I've used it on greens and plastics wood and card.
So the only thing I can think of is the amount of time your immersing your miniatures in the medium. Other than that I've no experience of these issues. But I tend to use it in a several short bursts rather than a long soak.

Correct Biostrip 20, I left the figures in for three hours.
Paint and araldite it seems to demolish with relish. I was just disappointed that some models basically fell apart, granted I can rebuild them.

I use an old GW tank brush to wipe the Biostrip from figures I’m stripping. The bristles & ferrule are now as clean as a whistle. While the brush seems OK, I’d be hesitant to use it as a cleaner on a decent one.

I use the same stuff (different container though - it's a white paste like gloop isnt it?) and have never needed to leave a figure for more than 15 minutes to remove paint. I paint it on rather than imerse figures though.

I also apply it with junk brushes (pva spreaders etc) and it does a good job of revitalising those, but agree with Citizen Sade that it's probably not meant to be a brush soap...

I've used it for metals, plastics, PVC (Reaper Bones and stripping the primer from Nolzur's Marvelous Miniatures) without any problems. I also used it to strip the paint from a metal toy car, which it did really well :D

I haven't had problems with anything I've thrown at it, and I've left some pieces in for several days.

However, I don't think I've tried anything that had greenstuff on it. I feel I must have used it on plastic figures I've glued together, but I'm struggling to bring an example to mind.
