10mm War of Spanish Succession ~ First English Brigade
« on: August 31, 2024, 06:41:20 AM »
I started my 10mm WSS project last year but my wargaming mojo left me and I haven't done much modelling or wargaming for the most of this year. However, over the past couple of weeks my love for my hobby has returned and I finally finished this brigade that I started at the end of last year. I plan to do another brigade of foot followed by a brigade of horse (or or two). When those are done I'll field them against my French which I finished in January.

However, I'm actually unsure what rules to use. I bought the 3rd edition of Beneath the Lily Banners but my troop basing is way out of whack for these rules. I am considering rebasing... (???) If I go down that road it would be better to do it now before I make even more even more battalions which would need re-basing. I'm not sure what to do, but considering BLB is, to my mind, the best set of rules I read so far maybe I should just bite the bullet and start re-basing.

Anyway here's Rowe's Brigade from the Blenheim Order of Battle. All the figures are Pendraken.

Below is a link to my blog. It's the place where I write uninteresting things about little toy soldiers. I do this because I refuse to grow up and behave like an adult.

Those are beautiful! I enjoyed painting Pendraken figures for a slightly later period (Seven Years War), they’re detailed but quick to do. Yours turned out great.

Nice! I spot some Augsburg era officers in there too; you have good taste.

Excellent!
And the glorious general led the advance
With a glorious swish of his sword and his lance
And a glorious clank of his tin-plated pants. - Dr. Seuss

Nice work.

On your basing dilemma, if both sides are based the same - even if not matched to the rules - perhaps the 'prescribed' basing won't matter.  Maybe take some of your existing figures and play out a 'tiny' scenario solo and see what you think.  Might save you the effort of rebasing - perhaps the most thankless task in all of wargaming.

The Brigade looks fantastic!

Don't rebase. "House rule" the rules to allow the basing you have now.

My advice: cut some cardboard bases out for a couple units and play the rules with them. I often find rules feel different when played rather than just reading them. Play a couple games to see if they are what you want, well before any rebasing.
