Regimental Fire & Fury Rules Question
« on: 23 October 2024, 04:23:57 PM »
I couldn't create a profile on the R F&F Forum so hope someone here can help.

At what distance does a defending unit fire at a charging unit? The rules suggest the charging unit makes contact.  For tactical reasons the defender might want to fire prior to contact.

If the defender can fire prior to contact what is the result to the charging unit if the charge is checked?

Thank you.

I don't have my RF&F rules handy, but am heading over to my gaming building here is a few minutes. I'll check, and report back.

The rules for pass through fire on page 49 say the shooter determines when they shoot. So they can shoot at any point that the target is in range and arc

It goes like this:
Union unit is charging during movement phase. It moves into contact and declares if doing cold steel.
During defensive fire the CSA fires at point blank / closest range.
If charge is checked the Union unit backs up 2 inches.

Thanks everyone.

A charge is treated in the same way as Pass Through Fire.  The moving (charging) unit completes its movement and is subject to the aggregate of all defensive fire at the end of its movement, which in a charge is contact.

I questioned what happens if the defending unit fires at, say, five inches.  Does the charging unit close if the fire result is "charge checked"?  The answer is "yes, it completes its movement to contact", and as with PTF the fire at the point of contact is the aggregate of all firing defenders who had LoS and correct arc of fire during the charging unit's movement to contact.

I was uncertain because in Pass Through Fire against a moving unit that is not charging there is no fire result that causes the unit's movement to be halted (checked).
