I did a DIY cloth mat from a rather plush blanket years ago. I haven't used it much since, but the times it did see action, it never shifted, due to its weight  :)

Over here...

I am an outlier and tend to prefer cloth mats.  They are easy to fold up, store, are washable, and can be used to cushion your minis during transport too!

For that I have enjoyed Cigar Box Battles.

As a follow up question, do any of you still use just 2D flat maps for your wargames? (including more recent wargames)

For example, I still have lots of maps from HeroClix and the Star Wars and D&D miniature games, all with terrain features printed on them (typically marked by various colors to denote the specific rules to apply to those features).

I know that prefab, 3D printed and DIY terrain are more readily accessible and available than ever before, but is anyone playing games like Frostgrave or Infinity with just 2D terrain maps?

Maybe it's just the old roleplayer in me, nostalgic for that way we used to play certain games...

I use flat maps, with some significant terrain in 3D, for my 5 Parsecs games.

Mainly Loke Battle Maps and Paizo's Starfinder maps.

I'm signed up for Loke's Cyberpunk kickstarter.
