Xmas special: Sekigahara (1600) with BBB!
« on: December 28, 2024, 06:54:59 AM »
Every year, Mark Smith runs a special Xmas game for us that combines role-playing with wargaming. He excelled himself this time, laying on an epic samurai battle in glorious 28mm. Old school! Full AAR on the BBBBlog here:

(Moderator: I first posted this to the Flouncy Shirts renaissance-era board, without realising there was this dedicated Far East one. As I got zero replies there, I hope crossposting here will be forgiven. Happy for it to be deleted from the other board if necessary.)

Of all the Japanese battles I imagined might see a BBB scenario, this was certainly not among them. Very interesting idea of cracker pulls, though – what specifically was decided by those? And, on another note, how did general casualties happen? Asking for a friend, and certainly not due to the need to work out if it makes sense to model Frederick Ward's death at Cixi in 1862...

Season's greetings, my Taiping friend!

Crackers: generally for odd scenario-specific incidents that may or may not have been significant in game terms. The only one I was involved in this time, I lost, so Crispin was able to erect stockade obstacles before I assaulted.

General casualties: for each general who fought in an Assault, roll 2d6; casualty on 10+ if he'd lost the assault, 12 if he won.

Interesting. So, definitely the sort of thing that's likely enough to happen to a general somewhere on the field, but not necessarily transferrable to creating a reasonable possibility for taking out a specific general at a certain point. Something to chew on...
