MarkW, I will be interested to see what you make of the Redoubt models. I bought a load of Redoubt Trojan Wars figures back in the '90s when they were still owned by "Redoubt" and they were lovely models. Over the years I have bought a lot of 20mm WW2 and 28mm French-Indian Wars stuff from Grubby, but would now only buy from him when I can see them before purchase. My last purchase of French Infantry featured a lot of thick flash which it was almost impossible to carve off, plus some form of black rubberised material was embedded in a few places. I suspect his moulds have seen better days, and as I understand he plans to retire soon I doubt he will be renewing them.

Ouch! That black material was parts of the mould that tore off when the figures were removed. The next time the mould was used, those black spots would be metal… Similar mould damage on earlier spins explains at least some of the heavy flash on the miniatures that you received (another possibility is poor alignment between the mould halves).

Thanks. I guessed it was due to the mould being past its "use by date". Its a real shame as the figures were full of character. I also have most of the Redoubt "Three Musketeer" range which in their day were probably the nicest range for that gaming period on the market .

Following all the comments on the redought figures I decided not to make the £200 purchase. So I am still looking and reviewing all options.

When Redoubt are good, they are great. But about a third of all stuff I've bought from them were poorly cast with misaligned moulds and/or a lot of flash.

After reading all the great comments I am decided to expand on my list of Bronze Age armies. I recently received Warlords Bronze Age for some inspiration

My Mycenaeans are a mix of Eureka, Foundry, and Newline. They all work together quite well. I even have a few Casting Room Miniatures (Trojan Command and Civilians in particular) that look good in person.

If you are open to 3D printing, I've been eying  Scropha Miniatures' line of Myceneans but I'm not sure how well they match up with the miniatures above. Height wouldn't be an issue being 3d printed...


I don't know how important historical authenticity is to you, but late Myceneans around the time of the Trojan War have some noticeable differences compared to early Mycenaeans of the 17th-14th centuries. With late Myceneans you have no Dendra armor, no close order pikes, more clothing and armor for the rank and file, less figure eight and tower shields, the introduction of round and Dipylon shields....

I've been looking all over for a box chariot for earlier Mycenaeans! However $35 for one chariot is way too steep for me.
