Beware the grape-scissors! Portuguese at Braga (1809)

A most unusual contest was the battle of Braga. This pitted Soult's veteran French II Corps against a Portuguese force twice their number but comprised almost entirely of ordonenza levies – like militia but not as good.

This made for a thoroughly absorbing game with a different flavour. Photo-AAR here:
