Anyone painted neoprene for mats?

Hi everyone! Our local fabric store is going out of business. I've been watching the roll of $30 per yard neoprene as it was discounted more and more. It hit 60% off today, so I took the plunge and bought about 3 yards of it.

It is a light gray color. Has anyone painted neoprene before? My internet research says I should buy Fabric Paint Medium and mix acrylic in with it.

I'd be curious to hear if anyone has done this before...

I have painted neoprene as part of Mardi Gras costumes. A good primer was necessary. Test for chemical reactions first but I didn’t have a problem. I have had problems with other rubbery items going permanently sticky from reaction to solvents in spray paint. I recommend brush on.

The shield below was painted on neoprene.  Same acrylic craft paint I use on figs.
