Review of Micro Arts Studio H00130 Large Tin Shed
« on: 22 June 2025, 06:07:12 PM »

As I'm currently unable to paint, but can assemble, albeit slowly, I picked up this kit in a sale and I thought I might as well do a review of. (it wasn't a freebie)

Why? I like to build and paint scenery, and I'm seeing more and more preprinted HDF popping up. It's not my thing but I can see the appeal of it, even more so after building this for my Stalker collection, but it will fit in with WW1 and up games.

If I build another one I'll get some painted plank texture, laserprint that in colour, and paste that to the back of the doors, but that is more of a completionist thing. Same goes for painting over the nubs with similar colours. But as is it is perfectly usuable.

Assembly was quick, easy, very fine laser connector points that sanded away in seconds. Dryfit found 0 issues. I only messed up with the side door as it appears to be resversed, but thats a me thing...I'm used to doors opening towards the nearest corner, not away from it.

All in all, a fun, quick build. It looks the part, no real issues. I'll be picking up a few more to keep me busy in the next few weeks while my elbow improves.

Link to my Blog if you are interested, a few more pics.

Interesting little kit - the pre-printed works pretty well, I think a couple of things would add to the kit, and its a shame they aren't included; 1) stickers to cover the joint nubs where they show through, 2) a card flap to cover the joint in the roof - which is one of the most obvious things when you view from a gaming angle.

I saw some of the Sarrissa pre-printed buildings at a show yesterday and they looked OK, but did still suffer from the overall flatness of basic MDF buildings.

Yeah, they are a bit flat. I've ordered a few of the other things from the range as it looks some of the windows are set back in the walls so it looks a bit more 3D. That is what I feel the advantage of the unpainted HDF kits, easy to spruce up before paint so it looks more 3D, and get rid of certain gaps.

But for a quick build and a bit of scenery, this works fine too.

Thanks for this.
Part of me knows I could scratch-build an outbuilding like this, but the lure of assembling a kit, then doing a bit of touch up is strong.

A good review of the kit.
Very easy to spruce the kit up with window frames and other such little additions.
But for a kit that is more or less table ready once built it looks good to me.
