Call that side-tracking? I very nearly mentioned Clavell's earlier cinematic opus, To Sir With Love, which starred Sidney Poitier and Lulu. I suspect that's the first time she's been mentioned on LAF, though I would be happy to be proven wrong.

Oddly enough, I tried to place an order on Lulu earlier but none of the discount codes I tried would work.

The moral of this story, I would suggest, is that one man's side-tracking is another man's unshackled vision. Of course, I would say that, wouldn't I?

That's correct. Incidentally it was written and directed by James Clavell, the author of Shogun and several other Asia-set novels.

Interesting. I did not know that. Love James Clavell and read all the books as a teenager.

I've only read his first book, King Rat, and that quite recently. Shortly afterwards I stumped up the cash to buy Shogun thinking it was really about time I read it, though I've yet to begin, as I'm trying, with limited success, to get through The Book of Elsewhere, the literary debut of Keanu Reeves, unless one counts his comic series BRZRKR, which is about the same character as in the novel.

Painted up some metal savage orcs and a shaman for a game of Old World. Took ages as only can paint a few hours a weekend.

Lovely work sir. Great old sculpts (although I still think of anything mid 90’s + as new!  ) I particularly like the face paint on the leader and how the bone headgear frames it ( really nice and clean), really draws focus to the boss.

How are you enjoying The Old World?

Dear Andrew. I hope you are well and I’m grateful for your encouragement. To be frank, I’m finding the rules a bit complicated. But it’s fantastic to be getting these old miniatures on the table. Something about the Old World setting has always spoken to me in a way that no other setting ever has. Like I was never particularly fussed by Malifaux or Warmachine settings in the same way. Or indeed by 40k. What are you up to hobby wise ?

Great job on the Savage Orcs!

Looking forward to the trolls and wyvern! I remember those Stone Troll sculpts being some of the ones that originally attracted me to Warhammer- there was a free catalog in the local game store that featured a excellently painted troll somewhere on the cover. They have both menace and whimsy in good measure. I've never gotten my hands on them, but every time I've modeled a new face on some other miniature to make it a troll those big noses and floppy ears are in mind.

I feel like the wyvern, being from the next generation of Orcs and Goblins, leant much more into the bulk and brutality that has kind of continued to get amplified in GW orcs in successive generations. That said, I like that miniature quite a bit too. I think it was a good move away from the 3rd or 4th edition wyvern that looked a lot like their dragons but with only two legs.

Anyway, keep up the good work!

Oh I concur, those trolls are absolutely iconic... and I loved the use of the trolls back in the mail order sections!
