Pillage vikings update 20250831
« on: August 21, 2025, 12:00:30 AM »
Never tried dark ages, only medieval stuff was for rpg games.  With the new release of pillage by victrix, thought I'd give it try.  So here's my first viking warband at 300gp.

Firstly berzerker with dane axe, chieftain full armor, and warrior with warhorn

3 warriors full armor

2 warriors shields and spears for support

Full warband

The victrix miniatures are dynamic with lots of variations (albeit some trial and error) and I'm enjoying it. Still need to finish the bases with some flock.  In the works next is a couple archers, a banner man, some more warriors.  I need to make an army list as I don't want to make sure

Great looking figures. Nicely done. They will look even better with basing!!
Victory is guaranteed to the last man standing, but always remember those whom you stepped on to get there!!

These look promising. I think that finishing the basing will really bring these minis to life.

I do, however, recommend against adding basic flock to the bases, as it doesn't always look great and tends to fall off over time.

Instead I recommend static grass, or even better, premade grass tufts. Gamers Grass sells patches 2 mm tufts which work great as basic ground cover. Add to that a scattering of taller (4mm or 6mm) tufts of different colors and maybe even some flower or bushes tufts, and your bases will look great.

Really  nice looking warband, I'm thinking of  Norman warband for a Welsh Marches clash myself.

Excellent!
And the glorious general led the advance
With a glorious swish of his sword and his lance
And a glorious clank of his tin-plated pants. - Dr. Seuss

Finished the bases.  Railroad fine ballast mixed with gw sand, railroad flock turf mix, and gamergrass tufts.

Had a Viking house laying around from a previous project so built that too.

Primed some archers, spearmen, and more warriors so those are next.  Only thing is I don't have an army list so I'm nervous about getting too far ahead of myself.
