Empress and BTD comparison?
« on: 22 March 2010, 02:59:01 PM »
I have some Black Tree Design British Infantry (Zulu Wars) Figures.  I don't yet own any Empress Miniatures.  Anyone know how the two compare sizewise?  I've seen a comparision photo of BTD Zulu next to an Empress British Infantryman that look fine together.  Just wanted to make sure that the BTD British Infantry are as close a match.

Black Tree Design is  bulkier.
The Zulus look far to muscular to me. More like fantasy barbarians from Kush.
But thats a matter of taste.
I would not mix the British.

Some people think that the BTD British helmets look a bit peculiar - over-emphasised ridges (instead of seams) on the helmet...
I think there was a long argument about it somewhere. The Empress ones look a lot more like the real thing.
Not that I've ever handled either in the flesh... Yet  ;)

Not sure if this is a help, but here's a comparison shot of some figures. Left to Right: Ironclad, Empress (x2), Black Tree, Foundry.

Handy comparison shot, thanks for that. Looks like they would certainly be useable in close proximity if maybe not the same unit.

Strange that the Ironclad one is biggest, I always thought they were a bit fiddly! I'm wondering if it's just the huge bases they use.  :?

I just put an order in for some BTD British, they're so darn cheap.

That's a useful picture, thanks. I thought Empress' would be smaller. And nice painting BTW.

Very useful photo - thanks.

I have some (BTD) painted that I might be selling.  Good to know how they stack up with other figures.

I just put an order in for some BTD British...

Hope it goes well.  Ordering from BTD has become a nightmare for many of us.   :?

I agree about the ordering issues from Black Tree.

I placed an order that took two months to arrive, had no replies from any emails, and gave up on ever receiving the figures just as they popped through the letterbox. No paperwork, no apologies, but I got them.

Decent figures though. Only problem is the helmets and cuff detailing are wrong.

By the way, has anybody seen/have the British Zulu wars figures from Baker Company?

My mate just gave them a quick email to remind them and they were fine.

I on the other hand, will ring if it takes longer than a week!  lol

The picture has been added to the Scale-o-Matic.

If anyone has any other pics they want on there let me know!

I still haven't recieved the Black Tree stuff. I'll give it a couple of days. Might even have to pick it up at Salute and demand refunded postage!  :)

I wonder if you could put some of the Empress heads/helmets on the BTD figures. Anybody tried that?

I've put Empress heads on Copplestone-sculpted Foundry DA Belgians and that works well, but don't know about the BTD  :?
