French troops on Atlantis! British Landing repulsed!
« on: 25 February 2010, 08:08:22 PM »
Hey all,
After weeks of dithering the French expedition to Atlantis has finally made landfall, With the British hot on their heels. However, after a hard fought battle on the beaches, the Thin Red Line has been made considerably thinner, and the French are now firmly lodged on the continent.

The game was a quick skirmish, mainly to test my recently acquired copy of The Sword and the Flame, which we muddled through fairly successfully. In hindsight, I realise that I gave the French far too much firepower, but such is life.

French Forces:
14 Foreign Legionaries, 12 Senegalese Tirailleurs, 8 Turkish Zouaves, 4 Marines, 1 Heavy Field Piece, 1 Light Field piece.

British Forces:
21 line Infantry, 14 Naval Ratings, 8 Sikh Pioneers, 1 River Steamer (Nordenfelt Machine Gun), HMS Mahratta (single turret Ironclad Gunboat).

The game was a clear victory for the French, with only half the Naval Brigade managing to make it beyond the shoreline.
I’m afraid we only took a few photos, and those weren’t very good or informative, but nevertheless here are the best;
 Setup;

The Mahratta's Captain picks his targets;

The British storm ashore, and for a moment all seems to be going her majesties’ way;

However, French command rally the troops with some exemplary flag waving, and the attack is beaten back;

I told you so. You damned fools.

Looks interesting, I like the idea of a landing party attacking from the sea, we have been medling with the idea too, but we went for a mine and jungle insted... for now...

As a general rule, the British always seem to do really badly on the LAF...

Good to see the French forces in action! Zese perfidious Anglais 'ave 'ad zeir oun ouay too longue! (This is really hard and quite silly... much more difficult than fake German!)

Great looking game too, I love the setup; it's so... blue! and yellow! with boats! Absolutely great - and it looks like you had great fun doing it - I particularly like 'exemplary flag waving'  lol. Glad I managed to get you a landing spot at last :embarrassed:

Mr Marx, your Anarchists (landing on Atalntis?) intrigue me... any details anywhere?

British thrown back from the French Occupied area??!! Would probably explain the lack of reinforcements to the British southern landing depot!!! The Prime Minister really needs to get the efforts organized! But then again, for the period, this is probably a well organized effort after all :)

Nice looking small game. I recognise some of the figures but can I ask, what make are the British Line and Sailors, and the Senegalese?
They will not force us,
They will stop degrading us,
They will not control us,
We will be victorious!!

The British Line and Naval Ratings are from Perry, the Sikhs and Senegalese are Eureka, the FFL and Turks are Dixon and most of the French command and guns are Foundry. Oh, and there's a Copplestone in there somewhere, too.
