Hero attached to a destroyed unit

This keeps popping up and I don't know if it's been covered before or in the rules?

What happens to a Hero attached to a unit that is wholly captured/destroyed in melee combat?

Does he move off and attach to another unit?

Nope,
he is member of the unit and shares its fate. He is either captured, killed ( nah...maybe seriously wounded....) or escaped but will not take part in the battle any longer.
