Pulp Era Boxing
« on: June 04, 2007, 08:59:21 PM »
As some people know, I have been working on and off on a set of pulp era boxing rules (ever since seeing Murch's Boxers set). The rules are about 75% complete, and I was thinking of posting them for others to start playing with and offering their suggestions. The final will be a free download. There are still some parts that need fleshing out but you will get an idea of the fighting sequence from what I have finished.

Anyway, thoughts welcome and here's the cover to get you in the mood.

You can offer comments over on the Speakeasy forum. I'll be posting the rules so far in a couple of days.

Oh yeah! Max Schmeling vs. the Brown Bomber, while US and Nazi agents battle in the shadows for the stolen secret plans hidden in Schmeling's shorts. Now that's what I'm talking about.  :)

Young Sickly from our gaming gang is mad keen on the Rocky films too, so it won't be hard to get him interested. I'm up for it. I think I even have the Pulp boxer figures already, unless that was just a dream.

Will there be a Gloire edition covering Regency bare-knuckle prize-fighters, too? (Tom Cribb and the like?)

If you ask Pete and Marc, they'll say I never do (or that I'm a lazy slacker if they're waiting on me for something.)

Seriously, I'll be putting out stuff for years with just the ideas I have right now. Considering I come up with new ideas about every other day, you can see how it will seriously spiral out of control at some point.  :)

We'll convert you lot to pulp gaming yet!  8)

And the rules will be generic enough that with some add-ons you could do bare knuckle fighting.

I wouldn't say you do nothing. You just have your priorities out of whack. You keep putting out pulp and historical titles when it's obvious the masses are clamoring for Fantastic Worlds: Pulp Action in the Far Reaches of Space

I can see I'm going to have to re-read "The Fight" and practice affecting a Norman Mailer style for my battle reports.

Oh, please do! I relish the books with bare-knuckle boxing in the Aubrey-Maturin and Flashman Papers series.

*SOCKO!* Jolly good punch there, old boy! I think I the still the same old fellow but minus one molar, by Jove!
