Gunboats and Paddle Steamers
« on: 25 July 2007, 09:43:07 AM »
I was trying to find some photos of African riverand lake gunboats and couldn't find very much. I then googled for river paddle steamers and found loads of pictures of Australian colonial era boats on the Murray river e.g.:

http://www.murrayriver.com.au/boating/paddlesteamers/default.htm

I thought that some of these would be great source material for scratchbuilding so I'm going to draw up some plans in 28mm based on a mish mash of the different designs.

Boggler,

I live in Murray Bridge within a 5 minute stroll from the river. You can see it from my backyard.

Cheers,

Barry

Boggler, I think that there are lots of pictures of boats on the African lakes on this website:

http://www.schutztruppe.de/

It's in German, so it might be a challenge to navigate for a guy in the UK, but it's worth the trouble.  There is an article there that deals with the battles for the lakes, with chronologies, maps, and pictures.
