photography of miniatures help

Not sure where to post htis.


I have a nice Sony digital camera to take pictures of my miniatures but I need advice, guidance, sources, etc., for background to make the photos look "nice/good" or at least better than the white table cloth laid on the dinner table and draped over a chair.

I have no space available to specifically shoot pictures and my storage area is a cluttered/crowded basement.

I think a nature background  or possibly an urban setting would work.  I hesitate to download others artistic efforts/photos because that's their creations but public domain sources would be great.

Kind of wide open, I know, but any links, suggestions, experiences would be appreciated.

You should be able to find a vast array of public domain backgrounds using Google Image Search:

You can actually set Google Image Search up to filter by license on the Advanced Search page: http://images.google.com/advanced_image_search?hl=en

Down near the bottom is "Usage Rights   Return images that are..." and a dropdown. Select "labeled for Reuse" and you're good to go.

Flickr and some other image hosts allow users to set licenses on their images, and GIS can filter on those.
