Hi Phil, Sorry for not getting back earlier. Thanks for the additional link. Also the Osprey book on British Artillery 1914-19 covers the trench mortars too. As to colour of the bombs - tahts a very good question. I'll look into it for the forum.

Can't you use the small figures as a cadet unit ?
Maybe underfed orphanage volunteers ? (You'd have to call them Oliver's Army :~} )

Mortar colours could be tricky, but I've a vague memory of seeing one in a painting by a war artist, maybe the IWM might know.
Otherwise, they're probably still in MoD stores somewhere, maybe they'll turn up in Helmand on a news video.
