Roads going banana shaped - Help...!
« on: 19 February 2011, 10:58:43 AM »
I made some roads by sticking black emery paper to thick card and doing a bit of dry-brushing. They look OK considering their simplicity and speed of production. BUT, they've gone banana shaped. Apparently, it's due to the pva glue shrinking after drying.

So, any suggestions for flattening them out? Glue them to hardboad or ply wood-maybe?

Also, whilst I'm soliciting advice, has anyone any suggestions for how to keep the pieces butted-up whilst in use?

Thanks

Doug

Glue some paper to the other side. That'll shrink and pull it back flat. Ideally it should be done at the same time as the other side but afterwards should still be effective.

Not too much glue, and putting something to weigh the road down while it dries?

I clamp everything that I use PVA on, keeps it flat and no more of that horror of finding your piece of road has become a hill. Typically I use 3mm MDF, and even that'll warp given the chance.  :-[

One recent roads I made like this I painted the bottom with PVA glue watered down with poster paint. A couple of coats should do the trick.

that's the best way. if you already did them, just wet them a bit and make them dry again! :)
