legends of the weird west
« on: October 04, 2011, 08:41:11 PM »
I just ordered a copy of legends of the old west and some black scorpion minis. Has anyone come up with any weird west rules to throw into this game? Im thinking about running a campaign as a GM and want to be able to throw some horror elements at players from time to time. Can you just port things over from LOTR SBG since it uses the same engine?

All Monsters use the following special rule.
Monster: A human that is within 6” of a monster and can draw a line of sight must pass a Pluck test or move away from it (...even if that means moving nearer to another monster the human cannot see or that was further away than 6” before he moved!). Any human wishing to charge a monster must first pass a second Pluck test, if the test is failed, the fighter may do nothing else in that phase. Monsters pass any Pluck Test they are required to take. They will always move towards the nearest human they can see or that is within 6” and will attack as soon as they have reached them. If there is no human within sight or 6”, they will stay in place.

Special Rules
Shambling: Zombies may only move 4”. If they have to cross an obstacle, they count -1 on the Jump and Climb Table. Zombies may never jump over gaps.
Dead but hungry: Zombies always count as armed with improvised weapons.
Hard to kill: If a Zombie would take a wound, it does not instantly get removed from play. Instead roll a dice, on a 1 and 2 the Zombie is not killed but staggers back as much inches as the dice shows and goes to the ground, on a 3, 4, 5 or 6 the Zombie is removed from play.
Unholy: If this creature is the target of a model that reads from a Holy Bible it does not lose a point of pluck. Instead it will suffer a wound.

Special Rules
Ethereal: Wraith may move through any obstacle without penalty. They also may move over gaps and don´t have to roll for climbing. Shooting and Throwing weapons may not harm a wraith. They count as armed with a hand weapon. But, if they win a melee, they strike versus the Pluck of the enemy and not versus his Grit. Also if an enemy wins against a wraith he uses his Pluck instead of his Strength value, if he rolls to wound.
Unholy:: If this creature is the target of a model that reads from a Holy Bible it does not lose a point of pluck. Instead it will suffer a wound.

Thx. I use this rules in cooperative games (inspired by All Things Zombie). They are still WIP for more Legends of the Night games. I also use a lot of inspiration from LotR - especially the Supplements about the Shire, Mirkwood and Angmar.

Its worth seeking out Deadlands Rail wars supplements and dime novels for inspiration. Certainly a fun "period" to game :D

@Lowtardog. I live in US.  I just saw your civil war zombies. They are sweet. Do you mind telling me how you made them.

To be honest its very easy, I took knife blades and heated them to make appropriate cuts on plastic Perry figures. For bullet holes or gaping wounds I used a heated pin. by pushing it in and wiggling it about you create a bullet hole and exit wound effect. As you pull the pin out the plastic tends to stick and form ragged edge on the outer "wound" the rest was just a quick paint job :)
