Some more colour inspiration from 1960s sources: first, some toys - large one by Herts Plastic Mouldings, small ones by Cherilea (picture scanned from Howe, Stammers & Walker Doctor Who: The Sixties).

Next, The Daleks comic strip in TV Century 21.

(script by David Whitaker, art by Richard Jennings - note that we now have "Menoid" to add to Mechon, Mechonoid and Mechanoid as possible names for these things)

(script by David Whitaker, art by Ron Turner)

Finally, the only other 1960s appearance I can think of, from The Dalek World.  This isn't in colour, but does add the mystery of those little bug things, which are unexplained in the story (NB this was published well before Gerry Davis devised the Cybermats).

(script by David Whitaker, art by one of J Woods, AB Cornwell or W Wiggins)
Back from the dead, almost.

Thanks for posting the alternate color scheme ideas.

I wonder if Ainsty would consider doing a proper Sontaran like landing pod.  I've considered hand sculpting or modding Christmas ornaments (as a few people have done brilliantly here), but it's a tricky pattern to replicate that seems to lend itself to computer design.

Comparison shot as promised.  Harlequin/BTD on the left (with WIP repairs and corrections), AEG/Ainsty main body, without the brass bits yet, on the right, just as it came in the post today.

It would have helped if the model had been cast properly - a large chunk of the base was missing.  But I think that I bought it almost 20 years ago, so it may be a bit late to send it back!  Please note that I have cut off the bunny-eared top part and am only part-way through building a replacement.  On the other hand, the model comes without any arms at all.
