STEAMPUNK!  >:(

http://www.foundryfantasy.com/miniatures/single_packs/steampunk/  NO BLOODY WAY!!!!

Another crowning turd in the waterpipe that is Foundry miniatures, now apparently jumping on any bandwagon going for a quick buck. Victoria figures are not automatically steampunk... do they even understand the concept I have to wonder.

Actions of a drowning man me thinks?

Relax dear. It's only a commercial  :)

Given that most Steampunk enthusiasts understand the specifics of that genre very well, i don't think many prospective customers are going to be fooled or won over by a rather cynical and flimsy piece of rebranding...  ::)

To be fair, they're in business to sell stuff. Can't really blame them for trying anything they think might boost sales in the current economy... But i don't think this is likely to be a winner for them...

No, I agree. And I'm pro-Steampunk. There's no reason Steampunk enthusiasts would go 'ooh, no, I'm not buying that if it's labelled Victoriana'. We like Victoriana. Much more chance I'd think that Colonial/Victorian enthusiasts will go 'Steampunk? No thank you...'.

  • Pedantic bugger, apparently.
Look at it this way: you can now get those figures from Foundry Fantasy, with its lower postage charges.  Who cares about the label?
Back from the dead, almost.

Yeah the only thing that is keeping me from snaging alot of the victorian mins is the sticker shock.
"Peace" is that brief, glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.

If it bothers you, you can buy them from the main site where they are still labeled as Victoriana.

If I'm going to question anything, it is why Foundry decided they needed the hassle of starting and maintaining a second website   :o

This. Especially the postage bit.

Below is a link to my blog. It's the place where I write uninteresting things about little toy soldiers. I do this because I refuse to grow up and behave like an adult.

At the end of the day it's just a label.

I mean I know Steampunk and Victoriana aren't exactly the same, but there's enough overlap and interconnectivity between the two.  Most Steampunks I know take the Victorian aesthetic as a starting point.  And the Lead Adventure steampunk minis work just fine in my VSF game thank-you very much.

But everyone's missing one obvious point.  With this "new" range firmly categorised as Fantasy, it leaves the way open for Foundry to expand it with some more fantastic, genuinely steampunky figures, something they couldn't really do in a Historical range.

Slight squall in a teaspoon actually. It was just my personal observation bud, and one of many things we're seeing re: foundry or rather potential floundry miniatures of late, draw your own conclusions.

In that case, I heartily approve. I'll even more heartily approve if they actually lowered their prices.

Thinks... no, I've never bought any Foundry minis in my life.

Well, I tend to say I follow the line I infer to you: part of a blurring of Steampunk and VSF, and now anything Victorian. Not even necessarily a squall, but something SHOULD be said.

Ah, well, just glue some gears on...  :D

I've bought plenty! Pretty much always out of cut out bins...  lol
