Kriegsspiel_Why no free rules on the web?
« on: February 13, 2012, 06:40:05 PM »
Well, this may be a bit of a ticklish subject (YA SEE?!  THERE HE GOES, TROLLING AGAIN!!) but why do I seem to be unable to find any of the rules free on the web?

Yes, I know TFLs produces a commercial version, and, judging by the stuff they have put out in the past, I'm sure it is a fine game, but it seems strange that I can't find earlier examples.

Kriegsspiel went through a large number of different versions, each of which might be valuable for historical interest alone.  Also, it is the grand daddy of all modern wargaming, far more essential that even Little Wars, even though it was created by a bunch of Prussian officers who probably could not spell the word 'fun' and certainly wouldn't have understood the concept even if they could.

Just curious.  I will probably buy the TFL version in any case, but it just seems bizarre that a bunch of historical wargamers wouldn't have this everywhere on the web.

P.S.  I am familiar with this version http://r-s-g.org/kriegspiel/rules.php though, it seems to me to be something more modern.  Anybody know?

Try here: http://79.170.44.85/kriegsspiel.inuk.co/index.php

Your google is better than mine, but I still don't see much in the way of rules, other than freestyle.

Archive dot org seem to have a set from 1875, but they are in German and in gothic script to boot! [urlhttp://www.archive.org/details/beitragzumkrieg00unkngoog][/url]

It remains a mystery to me.  With so many pathological... uh... dedicated gamers seeking out "old skool" stuff, I'd think this would be something they'd have jumped on ages ago.

The Language and the font style don´t make any difference to me but I´ve tried the link but nothing  :(  It gives the site but says error for the data.

Probably because I screwed up the tags. How about this?

If that still doesn't work it is possible the work is still protected by copyright laws in your country, although I would think that wouldn't apply to a work from 1875.

And now?  A book written by a Prussian officer in 1876 meets a German to English translation program written in 2009.

One can only wonder at the results...

So far some of the syntax is a bit archaic but no real problem to read..the gothic Font is giving my eyes a bit of strain though  o_o
