Cannon color for a pirate ship?
« on: 05 March 2012, 11:29:45 PM »
I have some long barreled cannon from Eureka, some shorter ones from Games of War, and a bunch of swivel guns.

The big guns are on carriages with four small wheels.  I assume those would be made of wood.

Do the carriages get painted?  What color(s)?

For the gun tubes, I've seen some painted a bronze color, some a steel/iron color, some almost a flat black.  What is an appropriate color or does it matter?

Thanks

Cannon from this period would be either iron or bronze... Iron was painted black... Bronze was cleaned and would be bare or waxed so it's natural color... Unless you have a slovenly crew in which case a little green patina would be good.

Canon carriages were made of wood...bare or painted.

Cheers,

The gun carriages were painted, grey I believe with black for the iron work.
