Love the scene of an outlaw gang posing for a picture, especially with the body in the coffin.. reminds me of people with their 'fishing trip' picture, except instead of fishing poles and a big fish it's guns, and well, some dead guy...

would make an interesting photo for someone's office.. picture of him with a rifle and a dead man, telling people 'ah yes, from my last hunting expedition'

this was actually one of the more easiest for me to decide.

Both have been painted excellently, but in WotR I actually saw close-ups of the minis, while the Dixon Gang was a amazing Set-Up.

I think the vote count does not reflect how close these two entries are qualitywise. This is one of those entries I almost did not vote upon because either way it seemed unfair. Both are excellent entries. I kinda like the way those grunts are marching to the next potential catastrophe - the feeling of impending doom is well captured.

On the other hand the outlaws are really spot on. The little details of the town make this picture become so alive. Plus I've just watched the good old "Dollar-trilogy" with Clint Eastwood again. Tough call.

Thanks for the kind comments gents, there's a bit of a story behind these figures and the buildings

I got interested in the idea of Western gunfight when there was a series of articles in early issues of Wargames Illustrated and bought and originally painted them up in the late 80s so they are as old as the figures. I built around 7 or 8 buildings for a town then (they are a bit rustic and rough I know, hopefully I'd do a better job now). None of these things have however seen any gaming action but I still couldn't bear to past with them and shipped them to NZ along with all my other wargames stuff when we migrated here in 1999.

I found the figures in an old box whilst rummaging around recently thinking that the only old stuff I had was old 15mm Minifig Napoleonics, the box contained other figs including some by the late Peter Gilder all horribly painted with brown flocked bases. Istripped and repainted them for this but I got a bit carried away though, and painted up a load of sheep and other figures  as well but couldn't fit them in. When being restripped the US army drunk's bottle rolled down the plughole so I made a new one from Miliput. I'll strip the rest in time and try and finish the town so I can get some gaming going with them soon I hope

@ SI - I think you've done a really neat job on those WOTR figures, when I saw them I thougt I'd be in for a hiding - bit of a contrast match really, really nicley painted figs in close up vs a scene I suppose

As an aside, my entry is a mix of Perry plastic and metals.  You can tell which ones are the metals, as their faces aren't the most attractive!

Well done Vallyeboy.  I've enjoyed the contest.  Must admit I hadn't appreciated you had used 'old lead' so I am glad you mentioned it.  Mine  includes 21stC plastic!!

Yes it is old lead, I found an advert for them in an WI of 1989 which is when I bought them roughly - not all are Dixon miniatures, I can't remember where some of them, including the "Clint Eastwoood like" figure are from as I picked them up at UK shows. The Dixon miniatures are still available these days though
