Meet Gnarlbones
« on: May 19, 2012, 05:36:05 PM »
Hi guys,

So I'm filling out my force for Brink of Battle's fantasy playtesting.  I'm doing my take on Wood Elves.  I have two requirements that I wanted to meet with this force: Satyrs and Treemen/treants/ents etc.

I am using GW Dryads, the first run in metal from the 90's.  I'm happy with that because they look very pissed off and eldritch.

I need a bigger version like a Treekin to represent a Brute I want to add to my force.  Brutes are the Ogre/Troll/Treekin/Minotaur level of model that is bigger, but not BIGGER, if you catch my drift.

I was at a local brick & mortar store, and they had a lone Treekin metal model in blister but wanted $23 USD for it.  Now, I'm not saying I'm opposed to paying a lot for a miniature, but there's hardly much to the model.   ;)

I need some ideas for that size of miniature that isn't that crazy a price.  Anyone have some alternative suggestions?

For my Feral Elf army for Impetus Fantasy I used this one from Masquerade:

A superb model at a really good price and very similar in style to your Dryads.

Well, I bought the GW Treekin yesterday at an awful 23.00 USD.  Pains me.  However, since I couldn't find a readily available version of that Masquerade Treeman up above here in the US, I settled for the devil in front of me.

I'll get it painted this week and post pics.

Well, I broke down and bought this GW Treekin model.  I'm actually pretty pleased with the results.

So meet Gnarlbones, my Treant for the Warthorne Tempest, my Sylvan Battle Force for Brink of Battle

That is actually a really nice model and PJ is top-notch.  Despite the price tag, you must be pleased.

VERY WELL DONE! That is one of those pieces that just doesn't look right until it's treated to a skillful paint job & a fitting basing.

Thanks Doomsdave!

I just picked up 3 more Dryads and another Tree Kin to paint up.  I'll get them done soon.
